Description

In 1979, Canon began production of the AE-1 Program. It was created as a hybrid of the AE-1 (1977) and A-1 (1978), resulting in an AE-1 with the A-1's capability for fully-automatic operation. The AE-1 has three modes of operation, Manual, Auto-Exposure, and Program. The first two use what is called shutter-priority operation. The user sets the shutter speed, and the camera calculates the aperture setting based on the shutter speed, film speed, and a light meter above the pentaprism. In Manual mode, the user adjusts the lens aperture ring so its value corresponds with the light meter readout, displayed on the right edge inside the viewfinder. In Auto-Exposure mode, the camera automatically closes the lens aperture to the required stop using an internal servo-driven connecting lever, but this can only be done with an FD-type lens. On such a lens, turning the aperture ring to "A" activates Auto-Exposure.
Program mode is selected by positioning the shutter-speed selector dial to the "Program" position. An FD-type lens must also be attached and set for Auto-Exposure. Program mode allows for fully automatic operation, determining both shutter speed and aperture setting. The user need only advance the film, focus, and shoot.

this may seem like the dumbest question, where in the world is the power button?
